Village of Hoffman Estates Waste Management
HOFFMAN ESTATES RESIDENTS! Billing changes: Effective May 1, 2015, the Village of Hoffman Estates will take over billing and payment collection for residential solid waste and recycling services. (Subscription landscape waste removal billing will remain with GROOT). All monies owed for waste services prior to May 1st should be remitted to GROOT.
The Village provides residents with convenient billing and payment options. To sign up for paperless billing for garbage, recycling and water services, email your water billing account number and service address to utility.billing@hoffmanestates.org. Residents may also access the auto-pay option by visiting www.hoffmanestates.org. Additionally, the Village’s online single-payment service is available by clicking “Online Payments” at www.hoffmanestates.org. As always, you can drop payments in the two payment boxes at the Village Hall and Police Department, pay in-person at the Village Hall front counter, or send payment via mail to: Village of Hoffman Estates, 1900 Hassell Road, Hoffman Estates, IL 60169.

Refuse, Recycling & Yard waste collected on the same day.
Refuse Program: Unlimited collection for regular household refuse. Refuse is to be placed in bags not exceeding 32-gallons or 50 pounds. There are no personal containers allowed at the curb. Refuse must be out each week by 6am. 95 or 65 gallon carts are available for rent provided by Groot. All bags exceeding 50 pounds will not be collected.
Recycling: Single family homes automatically receive 65 gallon recycle carts. Multi-family units and residents at the senior rate will receive 35 gallon recycle carts. Additional carts can be provided with no additional cost. Townhomes are only provided with a 35 gallon cart.

Construction Demolition Debris:
1 cubic yard (3' x 3' x 3') of miscellaneous debris or construction material will be collected each week at no additional charge. All material must be cut to no more than 4 feet in length and no larger than 2 feet in diameter. For the safety of the collector, all debris must be bagged or bundled and free of nails and sharp objects not exceeding 45 pounds. Carpet must be cut up in four foot lengths not exceeding 45 pounds per roll.
Bulk & Oversized Item Disposal:
Service includes unlimited collection of bulk items (not appliances or oversized/overweight items) per week at no additional cost.
Bulk items include: boxes, barrels, crates, furniture, and similar items that do not fit into a proper container and can be collected/lifted by one driver without assistance. Exceptions include items which are banned from direct disposal into a landfill. (Appliances, tires, car batteries).
Oversized and overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item that requires Groot to schedule a special pick-up. An example of an oversized item is a piano or any item that requires two or more people to lift. There will be a fee for oversized items.
White Goods/Appliances: Residents are required to call 24 hours in advance to schedule a pick up. There is no charge for this service.
Electronic Waste Collection - "e-waste":
The Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act prohibits any person from allowing or to cause mixing of any of the items listed with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill.
Groot Industries offers collection of these items directly from your home for an additional fee; however, you must call in advance to schedule a pick-up and make arrangements.
All items collected will be recycled and rendered inoperable. Due to the sensitive nature of some electronic items (computer hard drives or storage devices), we prefer to pick up items from the front, side, or top of drive locations.
Customers also have the option to bring their items directly to drop-off sites throughout the area, most of which are for no charge. Please visit the where and how page of our site and click on your county and then your town to search for area drop–off locations.

Yard Waste Collection Options
Yard Waste Season: April 1st - November 30th. Residents may choose to sign up for the yard waste subscription. This option includes an unlimited amount of yard waste to be placed at the curb for weekly collection without the use of yard waste stickers. A 95 gallon cart is available to residents who utilize the yard waste subscription option. Subscribing residents who wish to rent a 95 gallon cart will be required to pay a rental fee along with the subscription amount prior to April 1st. Cart rental will not be prorated if scheduled during the yard waste season which is the same as the yard waste subscription.
Grass clippings, leaves, twigs, garden debris, weeds, fruits, seeds, stalks, vines are acceptable landscape items. Landscape does not include wood timbers, plastic edging, plant pots or trays, fertilizer or landscape material bags, landscape fabric, bark, wood chips, root sections, sand, gravel, sod, firewood, rocks, excess amounts of dirt or animal waste.
Another option is for residents to purchase yard waste stickers for every bag of yard waste placed at the curb for weekly collection. Please see below for area merchants selling yard waste stickers.
