Village of Barrington Trash and Recycling Services
Refuse:
All residents will receive a 95 gallon capacity wheeled tote for their use.
Residents will also be allowed to use garbage cans or bags that are not larger than 32 gallons and do not weigh more
than 45 pounds each. We try to be regular with our collection times but we may arrive earlier or later on your
collection day, please have your material out at the curb by 6:00 AM to be assured pick
up. Backdoor service is available for garbage only for an extra fee and it must be set up thru the
Village.
Service Days:

Tough Items:
Bulbs, needles, paint, tires etc... create special
problems, please click here for help.
Bulk
Items:
Limited to one bulk item per week such as Furniture (couch, dresser,
chair) Mattress and box spring, lawn mower, bicycle, grill etc.
Construction Demolition Debris:
Up to 2 cubic yards (3' x 3' x 3') of miscellaneous debris or construction material will be collected each week at
no additional charge. Construction type debris should be stacked or bundled in lengths no longer than 4 feet and no
larger than 2 feet in diameter.
- Carpeting should be in rolls no longer than 4 feet long and two feet in diameter and taped.
- In general try and keep any loose material bundled and neat so we can pick up.
- Stone, concrete, and dirt can only be picked up in containers and cannot weigh more than 45lbs. per container.
- If more than 1 cubic yard please call Groot to arrange pickup. Additional charges apply.
Electronic Waste Collection - "e-waste":
The Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act prohibits any person from allowing or to cause mixing of any of the items listed with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill.
Groot will collected an unlimited number electronic waste items at the curb for no additional charge. Residents must call Groot at 800-244-1977 to schedule a pick up 24 hours in advance.

Recycling:
All residents are provided with a 65 gallon capacity tote for their use.
Unlimited recycling service is provided. A 95 gallon capacity tote is also offered for a onetime fee. All
recyclables may be mixed together in one container, no sorting is needed. Do Not put your
recyclables in plastic bags.

Barrington residents will be permitted to place approved food scrap materials inside their 95 gallon compost cart. Collection will continue to occur on Fridays with regular recycling and refuse pickup.
It's easy! Collect acceptable food scraps into a small household container and empty as necessary into your 95 gallon compost cart. Place curbside on Fridays, March 18 through December 16th.
Residents are encouraged to utilize their own internal container for home use (i.e. coffee can or countertop composting container). Organic food scrap material may now be placed directly into the 95 gallon cart along with yard waste (NO plastic, biodegradable or compostable bags). Yard waste carts contaminated with unacceptable materials will not be collected.

Yard Waste:
State law requires us to pick up yard waste separately from general waste.
Our program includes one 95 gallon container for your use. Collections begin March 15th and end December 15th. Yard
waste material must be placed inside the 95 gallon cart provided; any excess must be placed in Kraft 2-ply
bio-degradable landscape waste bags. Yard waste in plastic bags will NOT be
collected. Tree limbs, branches or brush must be cut to no more than 5 feet in length and placed
in the container. Any brush or branches outside of the container must be cut down to 5 feet in length
and bundled (use only twine or string) no greater than 2 feet in diameter.
Grass clippings, leaves, twigs, garden debris, weeds, fruits, seeds, stalks, vines are acceptable landscape items.
Landscape does not include wood timbers, plastic edging, plant pots or trays, fertilizer or
landscape material bags, landscape fabric, root sections, sand, gravel, sod, firewood, rocks, wood chips,
bark, excess amounts of dirt or animal
waste.
Appliances:
State laws require us to collect any white good type
of appliances such as refrigerators, ovens; washers etc. separately and recycle them. There is a fee per item for
collection and you are required to call the office to schedule and make arrangements for payment. Appliances are
picked up on Thursdays, please call in advance.
Special pick-ups and extra
garbage:
If you find you need extra rubbish picked up on a day other than your normal
service day an extra trip fee will be charged.
Oversized/Overweight
Items:
Some items are just too big or heavy for our people to handle without special
equipment, in that case your driver may have to leave it so special arrangements can be made. In this event special
charges will apply. Please call and check first if you think what you have placed out falls in this
category.
Vacation Policy:
Residents should notify the
Village.

*Collections will be delayed one day after a holiday
*If the holiday falls on a Sunday there will be no
collection on Monday and services will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week.
*If the holiday falls
on a Saturday there will be no change to your regular pick up day
*If a holiday falls on a weekday service will
be delayed one day later for the rest of the week.
