VILLAGE OF ANTIOCH REFUSE & RECYCLING COLLECTION
Refuse Collection Program
Residents will have the option of participating in one of the two programs below. Please note that there is no need to contact Groot to select a service if you wish to utilize the unlimited program.
Groot will be servicing the entire Village of Antioch on THURSDAY each week.
Unlimited Standard Refuse Service: Service includes weekly curbside collection of unlimited household garbage with a 95-gallon cart. One bulk item (non-appliance) will be collected each week for no additional charge. Refuse is required to be out by 6:00 a.m. each week. Participating residents will be billed directly. Additional carts are available for a monthly rental charge.
Limited Refuse Service: Service includes the weekly curbside collection limited to one 65-gallon cart and one bulk item per week. Additional refuse found outside the cart will require an additional fee for collection. Participating residents will be billed a monthly rate. Senior Program: To receive the senior discount, residents must be 65 years or older. Verified seniors will receive a discount of 20% (excluding cart rental). Seniors must be registered with the Village in order to be eligible for the senior discount. Recycling Collection
Residents will receive weekly collection of commingled recyclables with a 65-gallon cart provided by Groot. An option to upgrade the size of your cart to a 95-gallon cart is available upon request. Please contact a Groot customer service representative at 877-404-7668 for details.

Bulk Items/Oversized Items
Service includes collection of one (1) bulk item (not appliances or oversized/overweight items) per week at no additional cost. For additional bulk items, residents should call Groot to schedule a pick-up in advance.
Bulk Items include: boxes, crates, furniture, mattress/box spring and similar items that do not fit into a proper container and can be safely collected/lifted by one driver without assistance. Exceptions include items which are banned from direct disposal into a landfill. (Examples: appliances, tires, car batteries, televisions and electronic waste).
Please note that Groot will be providing an annual bulk item collection program during one week in May or June. This program will provide for the unlimited collection of bulk items as defined above. The exact week will be announced by the Village at a future date.
Oversized and overweight items are any single large or extra heavy items that requires Groot to schedule a special pick-up. An exampled of an oversized item is a piano or any item that requires two or more people to safely lift. There will be an additional cost for oversized items. Please call Groot to schedule a pickup.
Construction/Demolition Debris
In lieu of a bulk item, Groot will take 1 cubic yard of construction/demolition debris per week at no additional cost. All material must be cut to no more than 4 feet in length and no larger than 2 feet in diameter. For the safety of the collector, all debris must be bagged or bundled and free of nails and sharp objects not exceeding 50 pounds. Carpet must be cut up in four foot lengths not exceeding 50 pounds per roll.
White Goods/Appliances
State laws require us to collect any white good type of appliance such as refrigerators, ovens, washers, etc. separately and recycle. Residents must call Groot in advance for white good collections which will be an additional cost.
Yard Waste Collection
Groot offers the residents landscape waste collection from April 1st through November 30th each year. Collection will coincide with refuse and recycling collection on THURSDAY each week during the season. All landscape waste must be placed at the curb in biodegradable paper bags sold specifically for the collection and disposal of landscape.
Grass clippings, leaves, twigs, garden debris, weeds, fruits, seeds, stalks, vines may be placed at the curb on the regularly scheduled pickup day. Bags must be rolled and crimped closed and be easily lifted to waist height and not exceed 50 pounds. Brush and branches up to 6 inches must be bundled with twine (wire or plastic is not acceptable) 4 feet or less in length and 2 feet or less in diameter at the base and easily lifted to waist height. Yard waste does not include wood timbers, bark, wood chips, plastic edging, plant pots or trays, fertilizer or landscape material bags, landscape fabric, root sections, sand, gravel, sod, firewood or animal waste.
Christmas trees will be removed after the holidays on the 1st and 2nd Thursdays of January. Trees must be free of all lights, ornaments and tinsel in order to be recycled.
Leaf Collection
During the first full four weeks in November, Groot will provide leaf vacuuming services at the curb. The provision of this service requires residents to rake leaves to within five (5) feet of the edge of the road (not in ditches).

*If the holiday falls on a Saturday, pick up will stay the same.
*If the holiday falls on a Sunday, Monday will
be an off day.

Solid Waste Items Not Collected
Illinois law prohibits the disposal of certain waste in landfills. In addition, other items should be disposed of by other methods. Please observe these regulations, or your trash will not be collected. Please visit www.swancc.org for more information on how to dispose of these items. The following items are banned from landfills:

- Gasoline, Motor Oil, Anti-Freeze

- Acids & Poisons
- CFL Bulbs, Florescent Bulbs
- Electronic Waste
- Swimming Pool Chemicals
Electronic Waste Collection - "E-Waste"
As of January 1, 2012, certain electronic items are prohibited from being disposed of in Illinois landfills. Groot will collect, at the curb, up to six electronic items for an additional fee. One television (not to exceed 50 pounds) will be accepted for each collection scheduled. Please contact Groot at 877-404-7668 to schedule a collection.
The Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act prohibits any person from allowing or to cause mixing of any of the items listed with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill. All items collected will be recycled and rendered inoperable. Due to the sensitive nature of some electronic items (computer hard drives or storage devices), we prefer to pickup items from the front, side, or top of drive locations. Customer also have the option to bring their items directly to drop-off sites throughout the area, most of which are for no charge.
